End Your Summer The Right Way With A Back To School BBQ Party!
Yes, it's that time of the year again folks. You've heard the ads, you've seen the sales...
What? Back to school time already??? Where did the summer go?
Even though fall doesn't officially start until well into September, back to school time sure feels like the end of summer to me. But that doesn't mean it has to be the end of the fun!
Instead of hanging our heads about the end of summer, why not use it as a chance to come together and celebrate by having a back to school party?
And not just any back to school party. A back to school BBQ party!

Why Should I Have A Back To School BBQ Party?
If your neighborhood is like mine, it doesn't take much of a reason to have a get-together. Several of us neighbors love to make food and come together to socialize.
Since a few of us have pellet grill smokers, we share a common interest and have no problem preparing delicious BBQ.
Need an actual reason to have a back to school party? One big one is to get the kids out of house, off the video game systems, and out of the parents hair for a few hours! Sure you still probably will have to supervise but they usually are a lot less maintenance when they are playing with their friends.
And when you can have a party for both the kids and the adults, that's a double win!
Food And Drink Ideas To Make Your Back To School Party A Smash Hit!
When thinking of what foods to make for a back to school party, you have to think of both kids and adults. While some adults might eat whatever and not care too much, kids can be a lot more picky. I know a lot of five year olds who aren't going to touch a chicken breast or even something as heavenly as pork ribs! They would rather have a hotdog than a juicy rib-eye steak.
Here are some ideas that will satisfy the appetites of all ages for your back to school party menu:
Beverages: Punch, Kool-Aid, Sweet Tea, Soda, Bottles of Water, Beer, Long Island Iced Tea (for adults) etc. If there are small children attending the party, juice boxes go over well!
Appetizers: Pasta and Lettuce Salads, Assorted Fruit, Tortilla Pinwheels, Chicken Wings, Chips with Salsa or Guacamole, Taco Dip.
Main Course: Pulled Pork, Baby Back Ribs, Sub Sandwiches, Taco Bar, Cheeseburger Sliders, BBQ Chicken, Sloppy Joe's, Burger and Hot Dog Bar. Deli meats, cheeses and buns are also a great option for a build-your-own sandwich station.
Desserts: Pie, Brownies, School Themed Decorated Cookies, Caramel Apples, School Themed Cake (Apple shape, Schoolhouse design) Assorted Candies (M&M's, Reese's).
How To Entertain The Kids At A Back To School Party
Two words....bouncy house. Seriously buy or rent one. They are worth the price. Kids can't get enough of those things. Or if you have a giant trampoline in your backyard, that will work too. Get them jumping to burn off energy. Here are some other ways to entertain kids:
- Cornhole aka Bean Bag Toss Game
- Ladder Toss
- Wiffle Ball Home Run Contest
- Water Balloon Fight
- Back To School Supply Scavenger Hunt
- Bonfire With S'mores
The back to school supply scavenger hunt is a great way to get the kids in the mood for school! I would suggest the participating parents to all chip in and split the cost for the supplies to hide around the yard. And then at the end, the items can be divided up evenly. Items you can use include: Markers, Crayons, Notebooks, Scissors, Tissue, Pencils, Erasers, etc.
The games don't have to be complicated, especially for the younger kids. Actually it's even better if they aren't complicated. With short attention spans, the easier the better. Just get a ball, pick two teams, and the way you go!
Back To School Party Themes
Since this event is the last bash before school starts for the kiddos, why not even make it more enjoyable by having a fun party theme for them? Let's be real, you will have a blast unleashing your creative talents when you set this up!
You don't have to spend a ton of money on this. In fact, a local dollar store will likely have most everything you need. Again, the parents of the attending kids could split the costs.
Here are some ideas for back to school party themes the kids will love!
